Coming to the end of a sketchbook I started in February. It is fun to look through it to observe progress (if any). I wanted to be able to freely and minimally capture gestures and expressions. These last few sketches have a tone and some of the free line work I am aiming for (but a long ways to go).
I will spend my lifetime emulating the revered cartoonist R.K Laxman. I usually keep a few of his drawings as inspiration- the minimalism and ease with which his pen could capture the soul of famous and common people is so moving. Here are a few examples (from http://www.rklaxman.com/artwork.html). (The link is a good resource of his work and an official website run by his family member and colleagues I assume.)
